Two of your laptops, one meeting. Here is what each one does.
- Runs the Join From Anywhere extension in Chrome
- Sits in the meeting tab and shows its code
- Shows a dark camera tile whenever your Client is not live
- Runs the same extension in Chrome
- Connects to your Host by name or by its code
- Sends your camera and microphone, and plays the meeting back to you
Install on the laptop that joins the meeting
Add Join From Anywhere to Chrome on the laptop that will sit in the meeting. Sign in, give the laptop a name and choose Host. It shows a short code and waits for your Client.
- 1Name the laptop so you recognise it later.
- 2Choose Host: this laptop joins the meeting.
- 3Your Host code. The Client can use it, or simply pick this laptop by name.
Connect from the laptop you have with you
Install the extension on your other laptop, sign in to the same account and choose Client. Pick your Host from the list, or type its code, and the two connect.
- 1The Host shows your Client by name and says Ready.
- 2The Client shows which Host it joins from. Change it here any time.
- 3Pick the camera, microphone and speaker you want to use.
Go live, then pick Join From Anywhere in the meeting
Press Go live on the Client. In the meeting on the Host, open the device settings and choose Join From Anywhere Camera and Join From Anywhere Microphone. The meeting apps remember it.
- 1Go live starts sending your camera and microphone.
- 2Both panels say Live and show the connection quality.
- 3Press Stop any time; the meeting sees the dark tile until you are back.
Picking Join From Anywhere in your meeting
- Click ⋮ › Settings
- Open Video and Audio
- Choose Join From Anywhere for camera and microphone
- Click ⋯ › Settings › Devices
- Set Camera and Microphone
- Choose Join From Anywhere in both
- Click the arrow next to Start Video
- Pick Join From Anywhere Camera
- Do the same next to Mute
When things change
Press Stop on the Client. The meeting sees a dark camera tile until you go live again, so nobody mistakes it for a frozen picture.
Both panels say Reconnecting and the meeting sees the dark tile. When the network is back, usually within twenty seconds, your camera returns on its own. You are not charged for the gap.
Sign in on the new one and run the short setup. Remove the old one from the Devices page so it stops showing up in lists. The other laptop needs no change.
